ello everyone, I am Meena, 62-year-old resident of Mumbai. Have you ever stumbled upon a sentence that sparked a fire within you? A simple phrase that resonated deep in your soul and ignited a desire for change? That's exactly what happened to me when I read about the 14 day yoga challenge on GetSetUp. It made me think, "I should give it a try."  

I used to practice yoga several years ago, around five to seven years back. However, due to scheduling conflicts in the morning and various household responsibilities, I couldn't continue with it. When I came across the yoga classes on GetSetUp, I decided to give it another try.

Physical and Mental Benefits

Participating in the yoga challenge had a profound impact on my physical and mental well-being. The informative sessions conducted by the Guides provided me with detailed knowledge about the exercises and their benefits. I thoroughly enjoyed attending the sessions and made sure not to miss any of them at 7 o'clock. Every bit of it was enjoyable for me, and after so many years, I felt a surge of energy and a wonderful sense of rejuvenation throughout the day. Mentally, I felt great, thanks to the meditation practices. It helped me feel stress-free, allowing me to enjoy my day and maintain a joyful disposition.

Improved Flexibility, Strength, and Balance

Standing for prolonged periods had been a challenge for me, causing discomfort and limiting my mobility. However, through the yoga challenge and sessions focused on bone exercises, meticulously targeting every inch of the body and with a specific focus on knee exercises, I went on a journey that proved to be immensely rewarding. Today, I stand proud in the newfound comfort and flexibility that has breathed new life into my knees. 

Yoga has helped alleviate my knee pain while improving overall flexibility, strength, and balance.

Building Connections Through Yoga

Participating in the yoga challenge provided me with an opportunity to connect and socialize with other participants. Particularly with two individuals, Ofera and Rita V, whom I have interacted with. Ofera, in particular, is a dedicated attendee of all the yoga classes from the very beginning. She reached out to me after noticing a band on my wrist and advised me to continue attending the classes even after the challenge ended, emphasizing how beneficial they are. Ofera shared her own experience, mentioning that her frozen shoulder pain completely disappeared after attending Guide Dr. Divya Sitlani's class. She encouraged me to participate, assuring me that my wrist pain would also improve if I diligently performed the exercises. Indeed, my wrist pain has significantly diminished since attending the sessions. I am grateful for the continuous practice, as it has alleviated my discomfort. Now, I can even remove the band most of the time and feel much more comfortable and flexible than before.

A Continued Yoga Journey

Having completed the 14-week challenge, I initially contemplated taking a break. However, considering the positive impact I experienced and how my body feels, I have decided to continue attending yoga classes. The 9 AM session conveniently fits into my morning routine. I cannot stress enough the importance of maintaining motivation and having the right mindset when exploring the vast benefits of yoga. GetSetUp offers us numerous opportunities, but it's up to us to stay motivated and have the determination to engage in those activities. It all starts with the right mindset.

Advice for Aspiring Yogis

As someone in my age group, I wholeheartedly recommend yoga. It allows practitioners to focus on their abilities and engage in exercises suitable for their bodies. Yoga promotes both physical and mental flexibility, bringing tranquility and peace through mindfulness practices. With deep roots in ancient traditions and culture, yoga offers not only physical benefits but also spiritual growth through meditation. Embrace yoga as a path to improved health and well-being.

My journey through the GetSetUp Yoga Challenge has been transformative. I have rediscovered my passion for yoga, experienced physical improvements, and found a community of like-minded individuals.
