. This Diwali, Veena shares with us the importance of decluttering, "Diwali is the ideal occasion for decluttering our living spaces."
Veena's first advice is to start the decluttering process well in advance rather than leaving it until the last minute. She highlights the importance of planning and allocating dedicated daily time to declutter effectively without the stress of rushing. Furthermore, Veena encourages involving family members to make it a collaborative and enjoyable endeavor.
Regarding getting started, Veena recommends taking on one area of the home at a time. Her wisdom is to avoid overwhelming oneself by attempting to tackle everything simultaneously. Once you've chosen a specific room or space, she suggests categorizing your belongings into three groups: items to keep, items to donate or sell, and things to discard. For those sentimental items that are hard to part with, Veena offers a creative solution. She suggests, "Yes some memories are hard to give away. We can create a Memory box and keep a few things. However it does not make sense to keep tattered, almost on the verge of becoming”. As an example, she shares that she has her memory box, which contains meaningful cards and gifts made by her grandson.
Regarding methods of disposal, Veena is a strong advocate for eco-friendly options. She promotes donating usable items, organizing garage sales, or utilizing "free house" services. She stresses the importance of giving back to the community by passing on things you no longer need, allowing them to bring value to others. She adds, “Basically, the idea is to generate minimum waste while giving back to society- what you don’t need may help someone else.”
Veena stresses that decluttering not only enhances clarity and well-being but also paves the way for new opportunities. By embracing the practice of regularly "letting go," one can create a revitalized home environment just in time for Diwali celebrations.
